Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
Listed in 2010 for fecal coliform from urban runoff and other sources. Commercial and residential land uses contribute the largest FC loads of urban uses. About 60% of loads from unknown sources that may be illicit connections, leaking sewers, etc. In addition, the channel is degraded by concrete lining in some areas leading to loss of habitat. Nor-X-Way Channel was evaluated every two-year cycle from 2014 to 2024; elevated temperature levels, chronic toxicity by chloride, and high total phosphorus levels were found. Elevated temperature and chloride chronic toxicity were added to this already impaired water in 2020.Pollutant

The Milwaukee River Watershed TMDL was approved by the EPA on March 9, 2018 and covers waters in the basin impaired for Total Phosphorus, Sediment/Total Suspended Solids, and bacteria (E. coli and Fecal Coliform).

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2014 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2014 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, available biological data do not indicate impairment (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the "poor" condition category).

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2016 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, no biological data (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scores) were available to assess biological impairment.

Impaired Water Notes
Nor-X-Way Channel is a tributary stream in the Menomonee River Watershed. Nor-X-Way Channel is impaired due to recreational restrictions caused by high fecal coliform (bacteria) levels. The Assessment information summarized in report notes fecal coliform exceedances are poor on an annual basis and poor through the swimming season. Fecal coliform counts exceed 400 cfu/100 ml 28% of time on annual basis and 17% of time seasonally. Both exceed the 10% WisCALM guidance threshold for FC exceedances needed for listing.
