Impaired Water - Moose Lake (Moose Lake)
Sawyer County, Wisconsin
UC23
2420600
1,559.02
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
Moose Lake was originally included on the 303(d) list in 1998 due to mercury concentrations in fish tissue. This water was assessed for the 2012 listing cycle and the original listing due to mercury levels in fish tissue was confirmed.

Moose Lake was evaluated every two-year cycle from 2014 to 2024; phosphorus was identified as a pollutant in the 2014 cycle and levels were elevated in subsequent cycles. In the 2022 cycle levels were low enough to warrant removal of this pollutant from the Impaired Waters List. The lake remains listed for mercury in fish tissue.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data exceed 2016 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use, however, chlorophyll data do not exceed REC thresholds. Total phosphorus and chlorophyll data do not exceed Fish and Aquatic Life thresholds.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2022 cycle; new phosphorus sample data nearly met 2022 WisCALM listing criteria for Recreation and Aquatic Life use. Based on low variability in the data and good biology, this pollutant listing is proposed for removal from the Impaired Waters List.
