FOREST LAKE IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION: Forest Lake High pH & Weevil Egg Stugy

Purpose

The Forest Lake Improvement Association proposes to conduct an investigation as to whether sudden exposure of weevil eggs to elevated pH is the limiting factor preventing successful biological control of Eurasian Watermilfoil. The aquatic weevil Euhrychiopsis lecontei will be used. The project's goals will be to accurately measure pH levels in Forest Lake within all milfoil beds throughout the growing season; conduct lab analysis of lake water and milfoil plants; conduct lab cultures of weevils utilizing lake water and milfoil plants; and conduct weekly lab analysis of weevils in all life forms, after introduction into the lake. A final report of the project results will be submitted to all property owners on Forest Lake, the Association members, and the DNR. The gathered data and final report will also be provided in electronic form and on computer disc. Results will also be disseminated via newsletters, at meetings, and press releases.
