SOKAOGON CHIPPEWA COMMUNITY: Zebra Mussel Study - Part 1

Purpose

The Sokaogon Chippewa Community will sponsor a lake plannig grant project which is a portion of a larger planning effort. This is a multi-phase project to research the impacts of zebra mussels on Lake Metonga. This data will be used for management of Lake Metonga and larger management efforts by the tribe on other NOR lakes. Phase 1 includes two grants that will: 1. Collect data on water chemistry/physical characteristics, Phyloplankton, Zooplankton, Zebra Mussels and benthic macroinvertibrates. 2. The study will also look at connection to rusty crayfish, juvenile walleye, walleye and perch diet and other adult fish species. 3. Deliverables include a map of zebra mussel distribution and density, and a summary report of findings. The grantee will provide the Department of Natural Resources with two (2) copies of all final reports and maps along with an electronic version of the final report and map. All water quality data must be provided to the Department of Natural Resources in electronic format approved by the Department.
