MERCER LAKE ASSOCIATION: Mercer Lake Planning Grant Phase 1

Purpose

Mercer Lake Association will conduct a lake/watershed evaluation and develop a lake/watershed management plan. The project includes: 1) meetings with Mercer Lake Association, Town of Mercer and WI DNR 2) background data collection of Mercer Lake 3) field reconnaissance 4) define watershed and sub-watershed drainage areas 5) categorize present and future land use of lake/watershed area 6) identify existing soil condition, wetlands and surface waters 7) characterize quality of existing lake/watershed discharges 8) conduct numerical analysis of water quantity and water quality 9) develop water quality analysis 10) detailed analysis of current lake monitoring activities 11) conduct a community wide sociological survey 12) evaluate watershed best management practices (BMP's) 14) develop a Mercer Lake/Watershed Management Plan with implementation strategies Project deliverables include: - Detailed analysis of water quality sampling results and Mercer Lake's TSI - Summary of educational activities and public presentations throughout project - Results and interpretation of community wide sociological survey - Mercer Lake/Watershed Management Plan will be developed with detailed sections of watershed BMP's, ordinances, information and education, and easements Specific conditions for this project: A) Project design plans, sociological survey questions, and Mercer Lake Management Plan need review and approval from Lakes Coordinator before project begins and adoption of final management recommendations. B) Applicant is required to provide a mid-term project update. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Lakes Coordinator will be provided with electronic (pdf) and hard copies (2) of Mercer Lake Management Plan, blank data form used for sociological survey, and all raw data in electronic format. Project results will be disseminated to the public via a presentations to Mercer Lake Association and Town of Mercer.
