Dunlap Creek PWS Plan - Nine Key Element Plan

Purpose

The Dunlap Creek Priority Watershed Project plan assesses the nonpoint sources of pollution in the Dunlap Creek Watershed and guides the implementation of nonpoint source control measures. These control measures are needed to meet specific water resource objectives for Dunlap Creek and its tributaries. The purpose of this project is to reduce the amount of pollutants originating from nonpoint sources that reach surface water and groundwater within the Dunlap Creek Priority Watershed Project area.

Objective

The primary objective of the project is to reduce nonpoint source pollution to the surface water and groundwater, and to enhance and protect the water quality of streams in the Dunlap Creek Watershed. 36% of the sediment annually deposited in streams comes from agricultural upland erosion. 17% of the sediment reaching streams originates from streambank erosion. 47% of the total sediment originates from gully erosion.

Outcome

The plan calls fro 30% reduction in sediment reaching streams from agricultural uplands, 42% reduction in streambank sediment delivered to the creek and 94% overall repair of streambank habitat, 36% reduction in organic pollutants from barnyards, and 60% reduction in gully sediment delivered to the creek.
