Purpose

The East-West Priority Watershed Project plan assesses the nonpoint sources of pollution in the East-West Watershed and guides the implementation of nonpoint source control measures. These control measures are needed to meet specific water resource objectives for the North Branch, Menomonee, Cedar Creek, and the Milwaukee River South watersheds. The purpose of this project is to reduce the amount of pollutants originating from nonpoint sources that reach surface water and groundwater within the East-West Watershed Priority Watershed Project area.

Objective

The primary objective of the project is to reduce nonpoint source pollution to the surface water and groundwater, and to enhance and protect the water quality of streams in the East-West Watershed.

Outcome

The East-West Branch Priority Watershed Project (East-West Watershed) is being carried out in two phases -- planning and implementation. The planning phase was initiated in 1985 which included: an appraisal of the conditions and uses of surface water resources, assessment of types and severity of nonpoint pollution sources, assessment of types and severity of human-induced factors, identification of implementation measures necessary to attain management levels, and approval of a priority watershed plan.
