TOWN OF NEWBOLD: Flannery/Velvet Lake Mgt. Plan Phase I

Purpose

The Town of Newbold is sponsoring phased large scale lake planning grants to study Flannery and Velvet Lakes in Oneida County with a study completion date of December 31, 2008. Flannery and Velvet Lakes Association is a project partner. The project will focus on developing an Aquatic Plant Management (APM) Plan and a Lake Management Plan (LMP). Project activities include: 1) Project kick-off meeting and data review, including a literature search on bladderwort species 2) Develop public questionnaire and prepare newsletter article (mid-term project update) 3) Water quality sampling following Citizen Lake Monitoring Network protocols (secchi, P, Chla, N, DO, Temp, Alk, Cond, and pH) 4) Curly-leaf pondweed survey 5) Point-intercept (PI) survey of aquatic plants in Velvet Lake with 2 sets of pressed aquatic plants 6) Aquatic plant community mapping and analysis 7) Fisheries analysis and evaluation 8) Watershed and land use analysis 9) Reconnaissance of near lake area and shoreline survey 10) Coordinate a lake fair/results/draft plan meeting 11) Develop APM Plan and LMP Project deliverables include: 1) Public questionnaire and newsletter article 2) PI data and aquatic plant community maps 3) 2 sets of pressed aquatic plants from Velvet Lake (one set for lake group and second for Dept) 4) Maps of shoreline survey, near lake area and watershed 5) APM Plan and LMP Specific conditions for this project: - Draft of public questionnaire should be submitted to Lakes Management Coordinator for review before sending to public - APM Plan and LMP need Dept review and approval WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of APM Plan, LMP, newsletter article, public questionnaire, data from watershed and land use analysis, data from PI survey, all maps from project, and a set of pressed aquatic plants from Velvet Lake.
