Meudt-Mill Creek & Knight Hollow-Mill Cr. Watersheds TWA 2018-2020 with 2021 Addendum

Purpose

To monitor water quality, fish, habitat, aquatic insects for baseline data. Data will be used to determine stream condition, and help develop a nine key element watershed plan for these 319 watersheds. Southern District 319

Objective

This project will be used to get baseline information as part of developing a nine key element plan. The two watersheds are fairly similar in size, and are adjacent to one another, but they differ in agricultural practices. Meudt-Mill Creek HUC: 0707000503 appears to have more rotational grazing and cover crops in the watershed compared to Knight Hollow-Mill Creek HUC: 070700050704, which appears to have less rotational grazing, more dairy farms and more continuous corn production.

Outcome

Monitor waters, enter data in swims and fisheries databases, and summarize data. Evaluate stream conditions, verify stream natural communities For development of Nine key element plan, and for a Targeted water quality plan.

Study Design

Meudt-Mill Cr. watershed, collect fish, habitat, flows at four stations, collect aquatic insects at 7 stations, water temperature at 5 stations, and phosphorus, TSS, diatoms and algae at two stations. The following streams and SWIMS stations will be monitored: Unnamed tributary (WBIC 1244900) of Mill Cr., no SWIMS station, Unnamed tributary (WBIC 1244700) SWIMS station 253181, Mill Cr. (WBIC 1242200) SWIMS stations 10016649 and 10044785, Meudt Creek (WBIC 1244600) no SWIMS station, Strutt Cr. (WBIC 1244500) SWIMS station 10033874, Unnamed tributary (WBIC 1244300) of Mill Cr. no SWIMS station, Hubbard Cr. (WBIC 1244200) no SWIMS station. Knight Hollow-Mill Cr. watershed, collect fish, habitat, flow, aquatic insects at 8 stations, water temperature at 5 stations, and phosphorus,TSS, algae and diatoms at 3 stations. The following streams and SWIMS stations will be monitored: Mill Cr. SWIMS station 10048502, Unnamed Tributary (WBIC 5035533) no SWIMS station, Unnamed Tributary of Mill Cr. (WBIC 1242900) no SWIMS station, Unnamed Tributary (WBIC 1242800) of Mill Cr. No SWIMS station, Ryan Cr. (WBIC1242500, two sites no SWIMS stations, and White Hollow Creek (WBIC1242600) at SWIMS station 253073.
