SAWYER COUNTY: Sawyer County AIS Coordination Project

Purpose

Sawyer County is continuing an AIS Coordinator project to perform education outreach at public events, assist in development & implementation of specific AIS education/control plans, develop Purple Loosestrife bio-control projects, provide identification support of AIS populations, monitoring & mapping of AIS species, distribute educational materials, implement CBCW programs, develop prevention & AIS control plans including use of early application herbicides, provide technical support for rapid response projects, & provide grant assistance. Project deliverables include a comprehensive report including: 1) Education/outreach activities; monitoring activities; data collected; description of the extent of AIS in the county; detail on control measures, prevention & AIS plans; examples of materials developed; report on plan development and projects. 2) Baseline data (species, GPS locations, estimated infestation size); GIS maps of EWM, purple loosestrife, flowering rush, & curly leaf pond weed locations. 3) Prioritized list of landings for watercraft inspection & explanation of priorities. 4) CBCW data summary with data entered into statewide database. 5) County-wide resource list, with contracts, monitors, volunteers, etc. 6) Individual water body prevention plans & established infestation management plans. 7) Education program on AIS identification, prevention, & control including newsletters, articles, copies of educational materials; summary of presentations & public contact. Special conditions: The project sponsor shall immediately contact the DNR in the event in the event of a new AIS infestation. This scope summarizes the grant application and does not supersede application specifics. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the Lake Coordinator. DNR to receive both paper and electronic copies of the final report.
