LANGLADE COUNTY: RES-Shoreland Protection & Restoration Through Education & Assistance

Purpose

Langlade County, in cooperation with Lincoln County, is sponsoring a project which will focus on building and improving on past shoreland protection efforts within Langlade and Lincoln Counties. Project activities include: 1) Hire Shoreland Protection Specialist 2) Provide technical assistance and education to property owners for the development of shoreland restoration plans 3) Monitor shoreland restoration sites 4) Evaluate shoreland restoration application process to improve and streamline administration 5) Assist with revisions to the Shoreland Zoning Ordinances, Lake Classification Maps, and possibly revisions resulting from a revised NR115 Shoreland Protection Program 6) Supplement previous shoreland protection work on web page 7) Update and coordinate distribution of educational materials related to shoreland protection 8) Continue general shoreland protection I&E program including a landscaping contractor's workshop 9) In cooperation with the Langlade County Waterways Association and others, develop additional I&E marketing strategies 10) Supplemental plantings/maintenance of shoreland demonstration sites Project deliverables include: 1) Shoreland Protection Specialist 2) Assist approximately 30 shoreland restorations per year per county 3) Monitor past restorations and improve when needed approximately 90 sites in Lincoln County and approximately 60 sites in Langlade County 4) Updated county web pages, Caring for Our Shores document, new waterfront property owners packet, and plant species lists 5) Landscaping contractor's workshop 6) Improved shoreland demonstration sites 7) Final report summarizing all of the above listed activities Specific Conditions: - Final report needs Department review and approval WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of final report and sample of shoreland educational materials.
