KETTLE MORAINE LAKE ASSOCIATION: KML EWM Population Mgmt & Monitoring 2019-21

Purpose

Kettle Moraine Lake Association is sponsoring a project to monitor and control Eurasian water milfoil (EWM) population on a lake-wide basis. Project final deliverables include: all data collected and AIS monitoring and control strategy assessment reports. Specific project activities include: 1) Plan a large-scale liquid triclopyr herbicide treatment on Kettle Moraine Lake in 2019 which includes a pre-treatment qualitative survey, temperature profile measurements, and a narrative report outlining the finalized control strategy; 2) Implement the herbicide treatment following the recommendations; 3) Conduct herbicide concentration monitoring; 4) Conduct native aquatic plant and EWM population monitoring during the year of treatment (2019) and two years after treatment (2020 and 2021); 5) Conduct 200 hours annually of Clean Boats Clean waters watercraft inspections; 6) Conduct volunteer-based surveillance monitoring for EWM in 2020 and 2021; 7) Conduct EWM population monitoring following treatment to determine and implement follow-up control measures such as diver assisted suction harvesting; and 8) Develop annual AIS monitoring and control strategy assessment reports. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps, and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Lake Biologist. If consultant is to provide final report, it is recommended that Grantee provide DNR Lake Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to submission of grantee's final payment request
