LITTLE CEDAR LAKE P & R DISTRICT: Starry Stonewort Containment in Little Cedar Lake

Purpose

The Little Cedar Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District is sponsoring a project to experimentally control starry stonewort, an exotic algal species, in conjunction with a federal grant. Project deliverables include: Entry of all data collected into excel spreadsheets, electronic copy of final report and entry of all CBCW data into SWIMS. Specific project activities include: 1) Hand pulling of Starry Stonewort, 3 times a summer over a period of 3 years; 2) Placement of biodegradable mats interwoven with native plants in hand pulled areas; 3) Completion of annual sub P/I survey in the hand pulled area; 4) Completion of 3 annual full lake P/I surveys; 5) 100 hours of CBCW efforts annually; and 6) Development of a final report. Special Conditions: The report should contain the following: 1) Maps showing the distribution of starry stonewort from the annual sub P/I surveys; 2) a summary of CBCW efforts; 3) discussion of the successes, challenges and failures of the project; 4) Maps developed from the annual full P/I surveys showing the distribution of the top 5 to 7 native species as well as starry stonewort and EWM; and 5) a map showing the location of the biodegradable mats. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps, and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Lake Biologist. If consultant is to provide final report, it is recommended that Grantee provide DNR Lake Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to submission of grantee's final payment request.
