FRIENDS OF DEVIL'S LAKE: Devil's Lake Plant Survey & APM Plan

Purpose

The Friends of Devil's Lake State Park will sponsor a project to quantify Eurasian Water Milfoil (EWM) colonies in Devil's Lake, Sauk County. Selective, manual eradication efforts by divers will severely suppress the population, if not completely eliminate EWM from the lake if possible. A secondary goal will be the preparation of an aquatic plant management (APM) plan designed to protect the native plant community and develop a long-term strategy for preventing re-expansion of EWM in the lake. The following project deliverables are expected: 1) a completed APM plan; 2) documentation of existing EWM colonies based on GPS locations, colony counts and biomass measurements collected immediately before the manual pulling of all plants found; 3) data sharing which will involve public presentations, facts sheets, and press release to increase public awareness for the need to prevent the spread of exotic species.
