KUSEL, WILSON, & ROUND LAKES P & R DISTRICT: Wilson Lake Treatment of Re-established CLP Project

Purpose

The Kusel, Wilson and Round Lakes P&R District proposes to control Curly Leaf Pondweed (CLP) in Wilson Lake by implementing control measures during the period 2008. The project elements and deliverables are specified in their AIS grant application dated 3/28/2008. The project includes conducting pre- and post-treatment surveys and monitoring, and mapping the extent ot CLP; controlling CLP with aquatic herbicide treatments; implementing an AIS prevention strategy that includes developing an awareness & education program. A final report summarizing the 1-year project will be provided to DNR. If consultant is to provide the final report, it is recommended that the grantee provide the DNR AIS Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR will be provided both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to, submission of grantee's final payment request.

Reports and Documents
The initial progress report on this project was issued September 25, 2008. At the time we planned to include an educational article regarding AIS in our Lake District Newsletter that was to be issued later that Fall. An excellent article was written by Paul Skawinski, Regional AIS Education Specialist, AIS Coordinator – Wood, Portage, Waushara Co., Golden Sands RC&D Council, Inc., Stevens Point, WI. It was truly professional and included pictures of various forms of AIS. However, due to problems with the publication of the District newsletter, the article was mangled badly. The educational benefit of the article was voided by the inaccuracies in the printed document. I tried to have the original article sent along with the Meeting Notice for the District Annual Meeting held in June, 2009, but that also failed. Therefore the expenses involved with these publications will not be included in the request for final payment for the Project.
