BLACK OTTER LAKE P & R DISTRICT: Black Otter Lake Drawdown & CLP/EWM Control Project

Purpose

The Black Otter Lake District proposes to control Curly-leaf pondweed (CLP) and Eurasian water-milfoil (EWM) through a drawdown, chemical treatment, hand removal, and preventative measures in Black Otter Lake during the period 2009 - 2011. The project elements and deliverables are specified in Black Otter Lake Districts' Aquatic Invasive Species Grant application, dated August 1, 2008. The project includes monitoring the extent and density of CLP and EWM annually through pre-treatment and post-treatment surveys of known infested areas, and monitoring other lake areas for the presence of aquatic invasive species (AIS); treating EWM infested areas with an aquatic herbicide; conducting hand-removal of CLP and EWM; water quality monitoring, and conducting volunteer activities to prevent further AIS infestations, including conducting watercraft inspections. Watercraft inspection records will be entered into the State's online Watercraft Inspection Database. Annual progress reports and a final report summarizing the five-year project will be provided to DNR. If consultant is to provide the final report, it is recommended the Grantee provide the DNR Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to, submission of grantee's final payment request.
