CITY OF EAGLE RIVER: Silver Lake Eurasian Watermilfoil Rapid Response Project

Purpose

The City of Eagle River is sponsoring an AIRR grant to be completed by June 30, 2011. The project will focus on chemically treating a pioneer EWM population following a successful EWM control effort in Silver Lake. The project will also update the Silver Lake Management Plan. Project activities include: 1)Pre-treatment survey (spring of 2009 and 2010) conducted a week or less prior to treatment; 2)Chemically treat up to 6 acres of EWM (2009 and 2010); 3)Post-treatment survey (summer of 2009 and 2010) between mid-July and mid-August; 4)Stakeholder Participation and Education that includes a planning meeting and a wrap-up meeting; 5)CLMN water quality sampling (secchi in year one, secchi, chla, and P in year 2); 6)Point-Intercept (PI) aquatic plant survey and community mapping; 7)AIS volunteer monitoring. Project deliverables include: 1)A 2009 treatment report describing the findings of the pre and post treatment surveys, GPS locations, and guidance for continued control actions in 2010; 2)Updated management plan; 3)PI data, aquatic plant community maps and 2 sets of vouchers; 4)6 hours of AIS monitoring. Specific conditions for this project: Treatment report and updated management plan needs Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of 2009 treatment report, updated management plan, maps, data, and vouchers.
