NORTH LAKELAND DISCOVERY CENTER: Manitowish Waters Chain of Lakes Aquatic Plant Studies - Phase II - Fawn

Purpose

Manitowish Waters Chain of Lakes Aquatic Plant Studies - Phase II \2013 Fawn. Expand Awareness and Education of Lake Management and Stewardship Matters. Control Existing and Prevent Further Aquatic Invasive Species Establishment within the Manitowish Waters Chain of Lakes. Project final deliverables include: (1) All CBCW data will be entered into SWIMS. (2) A written annual report that includes all educational activities, including dates, times, and number of participants. We will provide copies of social media postings, press releases, and links to potential TV interviews. (3) PL biocontrol and monitoring data will be entered into SWIMS. Specific project activities include: (1) Monitor and manage for purple loosestrife (PL) and spiny water flea on the entire Chain. (2) Two types of surveys would be performed: a point-intercept (PI) survey and an aquatic plant community mapping survey. The PI survey is a plot-based inventory characterizing relative frequency of all plants, native and exotic. (3) Collect current aquatic plant community data on the Manitowish Waters Chain of Lakes ecosystem. Special Conditions: DNR is to receive copies of the final report along with, or prior to submission of grantee's final payment request. It is recommended that Grantee provide DNR Lake Coordinator with a draft of the final report for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. It is strongly recommended that an annual management strategy meeting be held each winter with DNR to discuss EWM management for the next year before aquatic plant management permit applications are submitted. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps, and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Lake Biologist.
