SHAWANO COUNTY: Shawano County Lakes AIS Project

Purpose

Shawano Co proposes to conduct education, prevention & planning activities to control & prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species into & from Shawano Co lakes Project elements & deliverables are specified in their AIS Grant application, dated 7.29.10. The AIS Coord project includes, developing a comprehensive AIS plan, monitoring, research, educ/info, coord & co-wide integration; conducting educ activities to train volunteers & gov agencies in monitoring & prevention methods; & IDing opportunities for county integration of AIS prevention activities on near-by lakes, and numerous other groups. This Manager position includes educating lake property owners & farmers about nutrient loading & implementing the recommendations IDed in the 2008 Watershed Analysis of Shawano Lake. Shoreline, stormwater runoff & aquatic plant BMPs will also be incorporated to the nutrient reduction educ. This co-wide integration will be implemented through site visits, presentations & demonstrations. Any persons training watercraft inspectors or participating in the Citizen Lake Monitoring Network will enroll in a current Clean Boats Clean Waters workshop or Citizen Lake Monitoring Network workshop. Watercraft inspection & Citizen Lake Monitoring records will be entered into the State\2019s online Watercraft Inspection Database (SWIMS). Any publications or signs produced as part of this project will incorporate the \201CStop Aquatic Hitchhikers!\201D\2122 brand (partnership details are at http://www.protectyourwaters.org). Annual progress reports & a final report summarizing the 3 year project will be provided to DNR. If consultant is to provide the final report, it is recommended the Grantee provide the DNR AIS Coord with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper & electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to, submission of grantee\2019s final payment request.
