ONEIDA COUNTY LWCD: Oneida County AIS Prevention & Control: Education, Prevention & Planning

Purpose

The Oneida County Land and Water Conservation Department is sponsoring an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) grant project. The project will focus on AIS education, prevention, monitoring, and coalition building. Project activities include: 1) Host 2 CB\005CCW, 2 AIS CLMN, 1 smart prevention workshop, 1 project RED workshop, 1 lake management planning workshop, press releases, school presentations, and an awards ceremony and partnership meeting; 2) Hire 2 seasonal AIS staff (education, watercraft inspections, monitoring, and fieldwork/sampling and data entry/analysis (coordinated with WDNR)); 3) Work to form unified lake groups and partner with scientific organizations; 4) Attend WAL convention, OCLRA meetings, AIS coordinator meetings, and local lake fairs; 5) AIS education materials (bait container stickers, placemats, boat/dock bumpers, 10 portable signs, quarterly newsletter, and informational packets for water sport/recreation rental businesses); 6) Collect data on AIS distribution and movement; 7) Host AIS strategic planning session; 8) Develop final report summarizing project activities. Project deliverables include: 1) Workshops, outreach and awards ceremony and partnership meeting; 2) Hired staff; 3) Entry of watercraft inspection and monitoring forms onto SWIMS; 4) Updated AIS maps; 5) Formation of unified lake groups; 6) AIS education materials; 7) Final report. Specific Conditions for this project: Final report needs Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of final report, all maps and samples or photographs of AIS educational materials.

This report provides documentation of the accomplishments achieved under AIS Control Grant AEPP-259-11 by the Oneida County Land and Water Conservation Department (LWCD). The grant was awarded to Oneida County by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), and the original project period, within the contract, was between October 1, 2010 and December 31, 2011. However, an extension was granted by the WDNR on October 19, 2011, and the new ending date of this project was set for June 30, 2012. This report also serves as the "Final Report" identified as a deliverable in the grant agreement.
