Wolf_Basin_TMDL_Monitoring - CO_02_CMP13

Purpose

This is the 3rd and final year of monitoring for TMDL development for the Wolf River Basin. East District Biologists will collect water samples from the waters of the Wolf River Basin including: the Wolf River (241300), Little Wolf River (272400), Waupaca (257400) and Embarrass River (291900), and the Outlet of Lake Winnebago (117900-LFR). These samples will be analyzed for TSS, TP, and dissolved P and will be used in the modeling to calculate loads for the Upper Fox/Wolf TMDL.

Objective

The development of a TMDL to address TP and sediment loading to Lake Winnebago is necessary. 50% of the nutrient and sediment load to the Lower Fox River and Green Bay is from Lake Winnebago and upstream. In order for the Lower Fox River TMDL to meet water quality goals, upstream loads must be addressed. This project will finish up the final year of monitoring in order to model the Upper Fox/Wolf TMDL. This project is in partnership with USGS.

Outcome

14 sampling events will be covered in the Wolf Basin, with a total of 6 sample sites. Sample collection is projected to end in December 2012. These samples will be analyzed for TSS, TP, and dissolved P and will be used in the modeling to calculate loads for the Upper Fox/Wolf TMDL. Results of the modeling will also be used to drive management decisions to improve water quality in the Upper Fox/Wolf Basin.
