Calumet County Lakes (Becker and Round) Assessment

Purpose

The lakes in Calumet County are in poor shape. This project is to collect water quality data on two lakes, Becker and Round, to assess impairments. Calumet County Land and Water Conservation plan recommends further monitoring for impairment determination. The County and local partners are interested in developing lake management plans for these lakes and these data would assist in that effort. Becker Lake - WBIC 77300. Round Lake - WBIC 68600.

Objective

Data collected will be used to determine if these lakes are impaired following the guidance in the most current version of WisCALM.

Outcome

The lakes data will be compared to WisCALM to see if impairment thresholds are exceeded.

Study Design

Becker and Round lakes will be monitored three times between July and September for total phosphorus and chlorophyl a for two years in a row. Dissolved oxygen and temperature profiles and secchi depth will also be collected. Samples were collected in 2012 as planned and will again be collected in 2013. Each lake will be sampled three times between July 15 and September 15, 2013 for total phosphorus and chlorophyl a.
