ALDO LEOPOLD FOUNDATION, INC: Leopold-Pine Island Important Bird Area along WI River

Purpose

The Aldo Leopold Foundation will sponsor a project in the Leopold-Pine Island Important Bird Area (IBA) that encompasses roughly 12,000 acres of public and private land and 16 miles of Wisconsin River frontage, east of Wisconsin Dells and Portage. Project deliverables are as follows: 1.) Create family friendly IBA educational materials explaining Aldo Leopold family history and producing educational materials that partners can use during tours, 2.) Utilize Leopold-Pine Island IBA visitors as citizen scientists to assist with collection of data for scientific use. 3.)eBird website and smart phone interface that allows citizen-scientists to record bird observations and attribute them to management units relevant to the adaptive management planning and execution on the IBA, 4.) Maintain Leopold-Pine Island IBA partner relationships by hosting meetings with agenda items consisting of opportunities/issues relevant to the partnership and/or local natural resources.
