NORTH LAKELAND DISCOVERY CENTER: Manitowish Chain of Lakes EDR Project - Phase 2

Purpose

North Lakeland Discovery Center is sponsoring an Early Detection & Response project focusing on surveying, mapping and controlling CLP in Stone Lake, Island Lake, Spider Lake, and Rice Creek, Vilas County. Project activities include: 1) Conduct pre/post treatment and peak-biomass surveys; 2) Control CLP by chemical treatments and volunteer hand removal; 3) Conduct volunteer herbicide concentration monitoring; 4) Conduct wild rice surveys and develop maps; 5) Develop letter reports. Project deliverables include: 1) Aquatic plant survey data and maps; 2) Annual letter report describing the findings of the pre/post treatment and peak-biomass surveys and guidance for continued control actions. Specific conditions for this project: Annual letter report needs Department review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of letter reports, all maps, and all aquatic plant and GIS data.
