Sanderson's Bumble Bee (Bombus sandersoni), a State Special Concern bee, is found in wooded areas. Wisconsin is on the edge of its range, and it is not common here. Rangewide, bees are active May to July. Nectar plants include Cimicifuga, Epilobium, Kalmia, Lyonia, Malus (apples), Melilotus (sweet clover), Monarda (bee balms), Penstemon (beard tongues), Rubus (blackberry), and Vaccinium (blueberry).
