Dickcissel (Spiza americana), Special Concern in Wisconsin, prefers open pastures and fields of clover and alfalfa. Grasslands, meadows, open savannas, and shrubby grasslands are also important nesting areas. Dickcissels require vegetation with medium to tall height-density and a significant component of forbs, at least some of which are stiff-stemmed.
