Franklin's Ground Squirrel (Poliocitellus franklinii), listed as Special Concern in Wisconsin, is semi-colonial and prefers brushy and partly wooded areas, dense grassy, shrubby marshland, as well as, prairie edges, rather than open prairie. Mating occurs from late-April to mid-May and young are born late-May to mid-June. They hibernate form late-September to late-March.
