The City had planned for an investigation to be completed concurrent with road reconstruction activities being performed by the WDOT over the summer. Because of challenges with coordinating activities, the investigation was not performed. WDOT did excavate some contaminated soil adjacent to the site in the ROW, and we understand that the contaminated soil was properly disposed by WDOT.
The City is now exploring an opportunity partnering with Washington County to perform the investigation this summer. If this does not work out, the City will proceed with budgeting to conduct the site investigation no later than the following year. Prior to that the City may approach the WDNR Green Team to discuss potential funding opportunities given the redevelopment of this area of the downtown.
The site itself continues to be a public parking lot with an intact paved surface.
