Final Site Investigation (SI) field investigations were completed in January 2018, with the results summarized in the February 28, 2018, SIR Amendment Addendum. The WDNR approved the completion of SI activities in a letter dated April 24, 2018. Results of second quarter groundwater sampling (April 2018) on monitoring well MW-5 were subsequently submitted to WDNR in a report dated May 9, 2018. Third quarter groundwater sampling is scheduled for July 2018.
A Remedial Action Options Report/Design Report (April 2, 2018) and injection request (May 23, 2018) were submitted proposing the use of in-situ chemical oxidation as a remedial method to address the chlorinated contamination in the soil and groundwater within the area of the 2410-2412 10th Avenue tenant spaces. The proposed pilot-test chemical injection was approved in a WDNR letter of June 27, 2018, and in a subsequent letter of July 7, 2018 (approval of a second oxidant for use during pilot-testing).
The proposed pilot-testing is scheduled for July 2018. The results of the pilot-testing and plans for future remedial actions will be reported to WDNR. The reporting will include information required by the July 7, 2018, NR140 exemption approval. DMR/s will be submitted as required under WPDES permit WI-0046566-07.
In addition to the remediation of the chlorinated contamination in the soil and groundwater, preliminary work to address the contaminated water in the Ace Hardware sump has commenced. As requested by WDNR, the sump will be sealed and the sump water treated prior to discharge.
