n 2013, six potential site remediation bidders were contacted to submit bids for the site, three bidders ultimately submitted bids to Marquette University (MU). Included in the remediation bids where the potential for the demolition of the existing structure situated on the site. However, the university had not resolved the future use of the buildings or the use of the site should it be free of the buildings. During the past year, the university developed specific short-term goals and actions and a long-range strategic plan which includes the former Dry Cleaner property.
Although the construction of any significant building on the site is at least five years into the future, the current best use of the site would call for the timely demolition of the existing buildings and construction of a surface parking lot. Since the bids were originally submitted without a clear statement on a demolition schedule for the buildings each bid took an individual approach to addressing this issue. MU is requesting the project be rebid with the buildings removed first to allow surface site development following initial remediation activity.
