Marquette County acquired the property by tax deed and then sold it to Properties LLC in October of 2011. Properties LLC attempted to return the property to the County in 2013 upon learning of the potential contamination. Due to the transfer to Properties, LLC, the DNR has taken the position that the tax deed exemptions set forth in the Wisconsin Statutes do not apply here. The DNR has agreed with Marquette County that the attempted transfer by Properties LLC to the County was NOT valid. Marquette County is not the responsible party for the property and denies all responsibility for the parcel. They filing of this report shall not be deemed an admission of responsibility by Marquette County.
