ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANUP & BROWNFIELDS REDEVELOPMENT
NR700 ACTIVITY PROGRESS REPORT

Reporting Period: 7/1/2015 - 12/31/2015
BRRTS No: 02-16-563948
Activity Name: PICKLE POND
Status: Site Investigation
Activity: Field Sampling/Monitoring
Comments: USFWS and WDNR have developed a proposed remediation and restoration project for Pickle Pond pursuant to the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. USFWS' consultant identified soil sampling as a data need to understand the potential for soil from erosional areas along the adjoining railway embankment to be a source of recontamination to the pond. During the reporting period of July 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015: WDNR issued a letter to BNSF requesting investigative sampling. BNSF hired Arcadis to assist in addressing WDNR's request. The information provided to BNSF by WDNR, however, did not document that the rail yard or the embankment is a source of Pickle Pond’s contamination. A meeting between BNSF and WDNR was scheduled for January 14th to discuss BNSF's proposed sampling approach and USFWS and WDNR's approach to the Pickle Pond project. Additional follow-up between BNSF and the agencies is planned to develop a sampling plan .
