During the second half of 2015 a series of meetings were held to plan site activities. The most important new information from the meetings is WDNRâs expectation that sediment remediation be completed, or at least well under way, in 2020. That deadline preempts earlier plans to potentially separate the sediment remedy from the remedy for the upland portions of the site, perhaps as part of the Voluntary Party Liability Exemption program.
The remediation deadline has initiated a planning process to complete a site investigation to collect the data needed to plan the remedy. Groundwater and sediment data will be collected to ensure that on-going sources of PAH to the sediments, if any, are identified and addressed by the remedy. New monitoring wells are planned for this purpose and they will be located on land that is not owned by Superior Water Light and Power Co. Discussions are on-going with the property owners to make them aware of the remedial investigations and obtain access for the new wells.
Details of the remedial investigation will be summarized in a plan to be submitted for WDNRâs review and approval. The plan is anticipated to be submitted in the first half of 2016, and the field work would be done in the second half of 2016.
