Fort McCoy received the conditional closure approval from the WDNR in February 2016. However, since that time, the Department of Defense has requested that sites which utilized AFFF be tested for fluorinated surfactants to ensure that these parameters are not present. Therefore, the installation is in the process of arranging to have eleven of the wells sampled and analyzed for fluorinated surfactant materials prior to abandoning the wells. Fort McCoy intends to completed the fluorinated sampling prior to the end of the Summer.
