FRIENDS OF PHEASANT BRANCH: Wetland Invasive Control-Pheasant Branch Conservancy

The Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy will conduct a sedge meadow restoration work in the marsh. A variety of effective methods will be used to control the harmful invasive species present: reed canary grass, watercress, phragmites, and woody shrubs. Areas will be re-seeded with native species. The vegetation response will be monitored and mapped. The work will be conducted by volunteers, Dane County staff, and consultants. This restoration work caps off many years of planning and other restoration activities to maintain this large wetland just upstream from Lake Mendota. Project results will be shared via the final grant report, at meetings and conferences, and through newsletters and local newspaper articles. Work will also be discussed with student groups that visit the Conservancy.
