WAUSHARA COUNTY: Waushara County AIS Specialist Project
The Land Conservation Departments from Waushara, Adams and Portage Counties propose to retain a specialist to facilitate the management of aquatic invasive species (AIS) in the three-county area during the period 2006 - 2007. The project includes training county staff & lake volunteers in methods for conducting milfoil weevil population surveys; hosting "Clean Boats, Clean Waters" workshops; hosting "Demonstration Field Day" workshops to exhibit monitoring methods for early detection & AIS control methods; assessing current AIS presence in lakes & identifying priority problem species; providing training on EWM identification & hand-pulling; investigating new AIS sightings & collecting specimens; & assisting lake groups in seeking funding for AIS prevention/control projects.
