RIDGES SANCTUARY INC: Ridges Sanctuary Lake Michigan Phragmites Control

The Ridges Sanctuary is sponsoring a project to implement control measures for invasive Phragmites in Door County for a period of three years.

Project final deliverables include: all data collected, annual reports and a final report summarizing the overall project results including methods, invasive Phragmites treatment and monitoring results, adaptive management recommendations, and all the education and outreach efforts completed. Clean Boats/Clean Waters and Project RED data will be entered in the SWIMS database.

Specific project activities include: 1) Update and improve the monitoring and mapping of established invasive Phragmites annually utilizing UWGB students; 2) implement treatments to address emerging infestations and reduce established populations within the project areas; 3) implement treatments to minimize spread to adjacent areas; 4) support coordinated efforts with private landowners to control invasive Phragmites on their respective properties by increasing public awareness of the problem and providing necessary resources; 5) educate the public on invasive species issues by hosting training and staffing for Clean Boats/Clean Waters watercraft inspections, training and coordination for Project RED activities, and installation of informational kiosks and AIS cleaning supplies at trail heads and other visible public use areas.

This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps, and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Lake Biologist.

If consultant is to provide final report, it is recommended that Grantee provide DNR Lake Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to submission of grantee's final payment request
