SAWYER COUNTY: Sawyer County AIS Coordinator
The Sawyer County Land & Water Conservation Department will sponsor a project to continue funding of a county AIS coordinator position which was originally created in 2006. The position has increased awareness of invasive species throughout the county and has provided needed resources for lake associations and shoreline owners. The guidance and expertise of an AIS Coordinator will continue to be a critical tool for lake associations, tribal partners and local units of government as they work on AIS issues.
The project includes the following goals: 1) Integrate Sawyer County Land & Water Conservation Department mapping program and invasive data base; 2) Map and monitor aquatic invasive species in Sawyer County; 3) Educate lake residents (public) about AIS activities and control options; 4) Ensure lake associations have assistance to properly manage AIS issues on their lakes.
