J&R AQUATIC ANIMAL RESCUE: PREV - Exotic Pet Surrender Events

J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue is sponsoring a project to hold exotic pet surrender events around the state of Wisconsin with the goal to take in unwanted animals and prevent pet releases to the environment.

Activities: 1) Plan Pet Surrender Events including coordination with venues, rescue partners, graphic designers, media outlets, and advertising 2) Execute Pet Surrender Events, including preparing educational materials, speaking with attendees and media outlets, and transporting surrendered animals back to rescue center 3) Recover and Recap from Pet Surrender Events, including processing data collected at event, sending out reports outlining outcomes

Deliverables: 1) Summarize each event, including pets surrendered and any NR40-regulated species listed individually. 2) Copies of promotional materials (flyers, social media posts, etc.) 3) Final Report detailing results from all events including pets surrendered (with NR40-regulated species listed individually), lessons learned, partnerships created, future plans, etc.

Conditions: 1) 200 hours of Clean Boats, Clean Waters (CBCW) is waived due to it being a Statewide Organisms in Trade (OIT) Pathways project. 2) NR40 permits shall be obtained as necessary, such as if an NR40-regulated species is surrendered and to be transported/held at J&R facilities (Liz Tanner, Statewide OIT Coordinator). 3) Electronic summaries of each event for general dissemination. 4) All outreach and education materials shall use DNR messaging; DNR Biologist may request review and approval of materials before dissemination. 5) Enter data collected (summaries of events, final report) into SWIMS database under the grant project number.

Data, reports, surveys, and supporting information, including photos, maps and GIS data, must be submitted to the DNR Biologist in electronic format and in any other format they specify.
