WEED OUT! RACINE, INC.: Restoration in lower Colonial Park (after the emerald ash borer)

Weed Out! Racine is sponsoring a project to reduce the population of Reed Canary Grass in 30 acres of floodplain in lower Colonial Park in the City of Racine. Within this area, Weed Out! will conduct mowing and trimming, herbicide applications, and seeding/planting in 2026, 2027, and 2028.

Activities: 1) Conduct mowing, herbiciding and seeding activities annually through 2028 per application within an approx. 28-30 acre area. 2) Per application, trim, mow, herbicide, and plant shrubs in six plots annually through 2028. 3) Plant between 40-80 native forbs annually and protect with cages. 4) Per application, drill seed between 8-10 acres within project area utilizing a native mix. 5) Conduct monthly invasive plant removal days through 2028 within park. 6) Per application, annually document and track activities.

Deliverables: 1) Submit Final Report summarizing annual activites, and final outcome of project. Report shall highlight success/failures/lessons learned towards project goal of 95% RCG reduction in project area.

Data, reports, surveys, and supporting information, including photos, maps and GIS data, must be submitted to the DNR Biologist in electronic format and in any other format they specify.

If a consultant provides a final report, it is recommended that the Grantee provide the DNR Biologist with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making a final payment to the consultant. Include electronic copy of the final report along with or prior to submission of grantee's final payment request.
