POLK COUNTY LWRD: Giant & Japanese Knotweed Control in Polk & Burnett Counties

Polk County Land and Water Resources Department in partnership with Burnett County Land and Water Conservation Department is sponsoring a multi-year early detection and response project that will monitor and manage pioneering populations of Japanese knotweed throughout the counties. Project activities include: 1) Community information and education specific to Japanese knotweed, including training volunteers on identification and control; 2) Identification, mapping, and management of pioneering colonies. Management may include multiple herbicide applications/methods and mowing; 3) Test seed viability and determine plant sex; 4) Follow-up monitoring of managed sites, including treatment efficacy evaluation. Project deliverables include: annual progress reports of educational outreach/training, monitoring, and management activities. Final project report integrating the annual progress reports with evaluation results and any educational materials developed
