VILLAGE OF GERMANTOWN: Filling Community Library Pond

Red Swamp Crayfish (Procambarus clarkii), an NR 40 prohibited species, are present in two ponds in the Village of Germantown. The Village of Germantown will fill in the police stormwater pond as part of a larger eradication attempt. The pond will be drained. Inlet water will be piped through the pond. Approximately 2/3 along the length of the bank will be excavated and the spoils will be placed at the bottom of the pond. The pond will be filled in for a period of 2 to 3 years with donated road pavement millings. A temporary access road will be built for construction equipment to access the pond. The pond will be capped off with topsoil and temporary seeding. The project also includes staff time primarily by the Village Engineer to design and oversee the project.

Project deliverables include 1) before and after photographs of the project site with accompanying text to explain the photographs and 2) a daily activity journal to be completed by the Village Engineer detailing the decisions made and the construction sequence during the project.
