DELAVAN LAKE SD: Delavan Lake Water Pennywort Control

Water pennywort (Hydrocotyle ranunculoides), a non native aquatic plant species, was discovered in the Delavan Lake inlet in the fall of 2010. The plant was hand pulled a number of times and the population was not appearing to spread. The plant spread to multiple locations in the inlet, outlet and the channel between in September 2011, and is now considered invasive. The Delavan Lake Sanitary District (DLSD) will hire a contractor to treat the water pennywort with liquid 2,4 D and a surfactant in the fall of 2011 as well as multiple times in 2012. DLSD staff will continue to monitor the progress of the plant in Delavan Lake.

Project deliverables include 1) before and after photographs documenting the effects of the chemical treatment on the water pennywort; 2) text to explain the photographs and 3) a field log to be completed by DLSD staff documenting the monitoring (of the extent of the infestation) and evaluation of the effectiveness of treatment. Weather conditions the day of chemical treatment and each of the subsequent 14 days should be documented in the log.
