FRIENDS OF PHEASANT BRANCH: AIS Abatement at Pheasant Branch Conservancy

The Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy will follow a detailed restoration plan over a period of three years to restore the Frederick Spring and surrounding conservancy area by controlling several species of invasive aquatic plants that are modifying the hydrology of this important wetland. Pioneer clones of Phragmites, and patches of the exotic narrow-leaved cattail and hybrid cattail, as well as reed canary grass will be controlled using best known methods. Shrubs which alter hydrology will be removed, and watercress will be removed from the springs manually. These areas will be revegetated by native species seeding and planting. A yearly annual report will be written, followed by a final summary report. The project and it's accomplishments will also be shared via the Friends' newsletter.
