WASHBURN COUNTY: Washburn County AIS Coordinator 2013

Washburn County is sponsoring a one-year countywide AIS project and position to continue to implement their AIS Strategic Plan. The Plan details specific activities for each of the goals: education, prevention, monitoring, control, legislative support, and capacity building. Note: only one of the two years proposed will be funded with this project, but activities remain the same.

Activities include: 1) A project report/assessment of Plan implementation activities and data collected, including the information in 2-8; 2) Examples of educational/outreach materials developed, including newsletters, media articles, marketing tools, school curricula, etc. and mass media campaign results; 3) Employment of a watercraft inspection intern and Clean Boats Clean Waters program support and implementation at AIS-populated and high-use lakes; 4) AIS signage posting and inventory update; 5) AIS education partnership with schools countywide; 6) AIS monitoring, including assistance with DNR early detection monitoring and purple loosestrife, Japanese knotweed and Phragmites inventories; 7) Purple loosestrife, Japanese knotweed, and Phragmites control; 8) Updated website that integrates AIS management information.

The final deliverable will be an accomplishment report/summary that describes the activities and outcomes above and includes any educational or technical documents developed.

Special Conditions: 1) The Department may provide standardized methods for AIS monitoring; 2) Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Lake Coordinator.
