WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES: Esquire Estate Ponds, Red Swamp

The Department of Natural Resources (Department) will hire a contractor between May and August 2013 to complete the bank manipulation project around the perimeter of Esquire Estates Pond, located in Germantown, WI. The purpose of the project is to complete the Red Swamp Crayfish eradication project started in the fall of 2011. The banks of the pond served as a burrowing refuge for the crayfish. This project serves to prevent the crayfish from burrowing. The Department completed construction on the majority of the pond perimeter bank in the winter of 2012. The project is part of a federal grant (EPA-R5-GL2011-1) to eradicate a NR 40 prohibited species, Red Swamp Crayfish from two locations in Germantown and one location in the City of Kenosha.

The contractor will complete the shaping of the banks for the 1100 feet of the perimeter that remains, place and secure 12 ounce road fabric, place #2 stone to a depth of approximately 4 inches, place rip rap along 80 feet of the perimeter, remove two large trees, and prepare the access sites for grass restoration after construction. The length of the bank manipulation is approximately 1100 feet. The project footprint is approximately 1500 square feet.

The project deliverable will be a photo essay of the construction project and a quarterly report to the EPA regarding the entire project.
