NORTH LAKELAND DISCOVERY CENTER: Manitowish Chain of Lakes Management Planning, Ph 3a

North Lakeland Discovery Center is sponsoring an AEPP grant to study Wild Rice Lake, Alder Lake and the Trout River, in Vilas County. The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP) for Wild Rice Lake, Alder Lake and the Trout River, conducting AIS education and monitoring, and performing early-season AIS monitoring surveys. Project activities include: 1) Planning committee meetings; 2) Water quality sampling and analysis; 3) Shoreline assessment and early-season AIS surveys; 4) Professional Dreissena monitoring; 5) Aquatic plant surveys (PI survey, community mapping, substrate mapping); 6) Data analysis; 7) Hire AIS Coordinator and Water Education Intern; 8) Volunteer watercraft inspections and AIS monitoring; 9) CLP hand-pulling and PL bio-control program; 10) AIS educational activities; 11) Develop Lake Management Plan. Project deliverables include: 1) Water chemistry, PI and shoreland data; 2) Aquatic plant community and substrate maps and aquatic plant vouchers; 3) Entered inspection and AIS monitoring data into SWIMS; 4) Hired staff; 5) AIS educational products and events; 6) LMP. Specific conditions for this project: Draft of LMP needs Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of LMP, news release(s), newsletter article, any AIS educational products, data from PI, shoreland assessment, and water quality sampling, all maps from project, all GIS data, and aquatic plant vouchers.
