BAYFIELD COUNTY: Bayfield County AIS Project 2014 - 2015
Bayfield Co. is sponsoring an AIS project/position continuing AIS Strategic Plan implementation. The position will spend a majority of time/effort with Lk Superior, its tributaries, communities and recreational users; and will expand their role and responsibilities in technical assistance and management planning with lake and river groups. Project deliverables: 1) Project report/assessment of Plan implementation activities and data collected, including the information in 2-9; 2) Examples of educational/outreach materials developed, including newsletters, media articles, marketing tools, school curricula, etc.; 3) Summary of smart prevention and CBCW workshops (10 annually); 4) Boat/gear cleaning tool kits at high priority landings; 5) Coordination and training of citizens, conservation groups, and municipalities to monitor, plan for, and control AIS; 6) AIS inventory (species, GPS locations, estimated infestation size), maps, and survey results for Lk Superior marinas and rivers mouths and high priority inland lakes and rivers (est. 10-15 surveys); 7) APM Plan and grant assistance (1 Plan annually) and technical assistance emphasis in the St. Croix Headwaters watershed; 8) Continued development and support of AIS school curricula and outreach (min. of 10 presentations annually); 9) Updated county-wide resource list, including lake contacts, monitors, volunteers, presentations, etc.
