VILLAGE OF BELLEVILLE: AIS EDR for Carp
The Village of Belleville proposes to recover the recent restoration of Lake Belleview by quickly controlling a successful year class of remnant carp in the fall of 2013. This will allow the stocked, native fish to suppress any remaining carp, and protect and improve the plant diversity and overall health of the lake. A contractor will seine the carp from the lake, donating the fish to interest groups, and disposing of any remaining fish. This effort is expected to succeed at removing approximately 90% of the existing carp. Local fishing for the remaining carp population will be encouraged with drawings for cash and donated prizes. Water quality monitoring will document the success of this carp removal project in 2014 and 2015.
