FOX LAKE INLAND LAKE P & R DISTRICT: Fox Lake Zooplankton/phtoplankton Communities Study
Test the ability of Sago pondweed (Potamogeton pectinatus) to provide a zone of refuge from fish predation and consequently, allow the zooplankton community to reach sufficient numbers to significantly reduce the extent of algal blooms. Compare compositiand abundance of zooplankton and phytoplankton in presence and absence of fish. Assess combined importance of macrophyte presence and fish absence on composition and abundance of zooplankton and phytoplankton. Evaluate zooplankton utilization of macrophytes as refugia. Correlate water quality parameters to benefit and detriment to zooplankton and phytoplankton communities. The grantee will disseminate information to the public by newsletter mailings, fact sheet distributions, public meetings, local newspaper articles and a comprehensive management plan.
